World champion to skate in Lake Placid

Reigning world champion Kimmie Meissner will be the featured skater Saturday in the weekly Citizens Bank Saturday Night Ice Show.

The show, in thee 1932 Rink Jack Shea Arena, will be presented by Soulshine Bagel and will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Meissner, who will turn 17 on Oct. 4, performed extremely well at the 2006 Olympics and finished a surprising sixth. Three weeks later, in her first World Championships, she gave an incredible performance and stunned the skating world by winning the title. Meissner, of Bel Air, Md., earned one of the highest technical scores in the history of figure skating (69.47) to upset favorite, Sasha Cohen.


Also returning this week is the dance team of Kim Navaro and Brent Bommentre. Navaro and Bommentre were 2006 U.S. Olympic team alternates and won this year’s Performance of the Year Award at the U.S. National Championships.

In addition, members of local skating clubs, in group and solo numbers, will take their turn on the famed Olympic Center ice surface that saw Sonja Henie skate to gold in the 1932 Winter Olympics.

Admission is $9 for adults, $6 for juniors and seniors, while children six years and under are admitted free.

Tickets can be purchased at the Olympic Center Box Office at any time, at the door the night of the show and at the ORDA Store on Main Street in Lake Placid.
