Kimmie participates in reopening events for Baltimore Basilica

Saturday, Nov. 11, 6 p.m.: Youth Mass; 7:30 p.m., Illumination Ceremony

Cardinal Keeler will celebrate a ticketed-only youth mass in the basilica, which will be followed by an outdoor ceremony to illuminate the exterior of the basilica permanently for the first time in the cathedral’s history. The ceremony will begin with a countdown to the illumination led by World Figure Skating Champion Kimmie Meissner and a military veteran of Iraq. The illumination, using low-wattage lamps to reduce light pollution and keep costs low, is being done in response to a recent civic initiative to light Baltimore’s historic and high-rise buildings at night.
