Press Release

America’s newest teenage figure skating sensation, Kimmie Meissner, who claimed her first national title at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships this past weekend in Spokane, Wash., has now landed three major endorsement deals.

Meissner, 17, who is also the reigning World Champion, will appear in her first national TV commercial with Subway, the sandwich food chain. In addition, she signed pacts with Under Armour, Inc., an athletic clothing company, and Visa.

“I am really excited about working with Subway. I eat there every day after practice,” Meissner says. “I am also excited about Under Armour. I like wearing their clothes for practice, to work out and to school. I am really proud of the Visa deal. It’s nice to be honored in the same way as someone like Michelle Kwan, who has always been my role model.”

Meissner flew from Spokane to New York City to shoot the national TV spot for Subway on Tuesday. The deal with Subway is a perfect fit. She has been a regular customer at a local Subway shop. She stops there daily to order a turkey sub, complete with carrot sticks, on her way to practice sessions at the University of Delaware. After the Olympics in Torino, Italy, the owner of the Subway restaurant where she regularly eats, helped arranged a regional TV commercial.

For the national commercial, she is expected to appear with Subway star Jared Fogle, a college student who lost 245 pounds after eating the subs. Meissner will bring a fresh face to these ads. Since she is a physically fit athlete, she will capture the company’s message, by inspiring the American public to “Eat Fresh.”

Her pact with Under Armour is especially exciting since the company is based in Baltimore.

She also will be endorsed by Visa, which is a major sponsor of the Olympics. Meissner, who was the youngest American on the U.S. team in Torino, Italy, last year, finished sixth at the Winter Olympics. She followed up that performance by winning the World title in Calgary, Alberta, in March.

Meissner has become the new face of American skating. She is only the second American woman to ever land a triple axel in competition. She achieved that feat at the 2005 U.S. Championships, where she placed third overall. She was second in 2006. By winning the national title this past week, she became the first American since Kristi Yamaguchi to claim the U.S. crown after capturing a world title. Her next goal is to defend her world title in March in Tokyo.
