Time for US National Championships!

Friday, January 23rd, 2009

With early action from Cleveland being aired on Universal Sports Wednesday and Thursday, you can get a taste of the 2009 Championships.

The main event will be shown on Saturday at 9PM (ET) on NBC. As you probably know, Kimmie will not be competing for one of the 2 spots on the World Championship team. She had to withdraw because of a hip injury.

Also, keep in mind that, due to the ladies’ individual finishes at the 2008 World Champs, Team USA only earned two spots instead of the 3 they are used to.

I love figure skating and am still very much looking forward to the young’uns battling for the title of National Champion. Good luck to them all!

Two-time U.S. figure skating champion Evan Lysacek will be joined by an all-star skating lineup when he hosts “An Evening of Hope,” a show benefiting The Stephanie Joseph Memorial Fund in collaboration with the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Illinois.

The show is set for 7 p.m. on Sept. 27 at the Fox Valley Ice Arena in Geneva, Ill., not far from where Lysacek was born and raised in Naperville, Ill. Lysacek decided to organize this show as a tribute to his friend, Stephanie Joseph, who died at 21 in February after battling soft tissue sarcoma, a rare form of cancer, since she was 8.
